Open House 2015

Activities for each class

Welcome parents and students.

Math 8 students completed notes today on identifying functions, and should show lesson 8.3.1 from our textbook CPM Core Connections Course 3. Math 7 students completed showing multiple methods to solve a proportion. Math 7 Accelerated students can show the lesson they completed in Course 3, 7.2.1 about y=mx+b.

There is also an activity for identifying similar shapes and finding the scale factor, corresponding to Chapter 6 in Course 3 for Math 8 or Math 7A students to show. Algebra tiles are also available to model solving an equation or showing the perimeter of any of the algebra tiles.

What can you do for the rest of the year for your child?

Monitor weekly lifelines. Homework is assigned almost daily except weekends. When you look on Parent Vue the date is when it is/was due. Look at test and quiz results.

What can your child do this summer? has many great exercises. I'm not a big fan of the videos, but it's a great way to practice a skill and feedback on it quickly. has the How To Learn Math Course for students and parents for free through Stanford University by Jo Boaler offers a free online summer class that I have not tried myself yet

UPDATE: Thanks for coming out. I was happy to see students complete the similar figures activity aftert I suggested it.
